What is Domiciliary care?

Trustworthy care, at the hours you need it, can be harder to find than it should be

Most families searching for home caregivers near them are not looking for a complex arrangement. They want someone they can trust: a skilled, warm, reliable person who will show up when they say they will, treat their loved one with genuine respect, and get on with the job without fuss or prompting.

The frustration is that this feels harder to find than it should be. Too many families settle for care that is inconsistent, impersonal or simply not good enough because they do not know that a better standard exists.

Private domiciliary care from Seren Healthcare Solutions is different. Once families experience the warmth, the professionalism and personal attention of our home caregivers, the response is always the same: they wish they had found us sooner. Our carers are, without exception, humble, friendly and genuinely skilled. And every one of them is trained to administer medication.

Round-the-clock support, in the home they love

Private domiciliary care, also known as home care or visiting care, means a trained, experienced carer comes to your loved one's home to provide one-to-one support at agreed times. Unlike a care home, your loved one stays exactly where they want to be: in familiar surroundings, with their own routines, in full control of their daily life.

Unlike council-arranged care, private domiciliary care gives you the freedom to choose who comes, when they come, and what they do. You will always know your carer. Visits can be arranged for as little as 30 minutes a week or as frequently as several times a day, and scaled up or down as needs change. For those who need more intensive support, overnight care, waking nights and full live-in arrangements are also available.

What distinguishes Seren's private home care services is the standard we hold ourselves to. Our home caregivers are not agency staff dispatched to fill a rota. They are carefully matched, consistently deployed, clinically trained professionals who take genuine pride in their work, and it shows.

Understanding private care at home costs

Private domiciliary home care costs typically run from around £27–£32 per hour in Wales and the wider UK, depending on the level of care required, time of day and visit frequency. Overnight and waking night cover is priced separately. We will always be transparent about costs before any care is arranged.

There are also funding routes that many families are not aware of and our team will help you explore what you may be entitled to.

Questions we hear from families every day

What is domiciliary care — and how is it different from a care home?

Domiciliary care means a trained carer comes to your loved one's own home to provide support — rather than your loved one moving into a residential facility. They keep their independence, their routines and their familiar surroundings. For most people, this is exactly what they would choose. Private domiciliary care takes this further by giving you full control over who comes, when they come, and what they do — with no compromise on consistency or quality.

Will the quality of private home care really be better than what the council arranges?

In our experience — consistently, yes. Families who have previously used council-arranged domiciliary care almost universally tell us that there is a difference in standard. With private care, you always know your carer, visits are not cut short, and the care plan is tailored to the individual rather than a generic template. Our home caregivers are also notably warmer and friendlier than people expect — this is something we are genuinely proud of.

Can carers administer medication?

Yes — every one of our carers is trained in medication administration. This is a standard part of how we work, not an add-on. Medication management is included in every care plan where it is needed, and is overseen with full clinical accountability and detailed record-keeping at every visit.

Can I arrange overnight or waking night care as well as daytime visits?

Absolutely. We offer the full range of visit types: hourly daytime calls, daily care, sleeping night cover and full waking night support. Many families start with daytime visits and add overnight care as needs change. We make it straightforward to adjust the arrangement at any time.

How do I find home caregivers near me who are right for my loved one?

Call our team on 01633 526 711. We will take the time to understand your loved one's specific needs, personality and preferences — and match them with the right private carer accordingly. We do not fill gaps in a rota. We make introductions we are confident about, and we stay in contact throughout.
